Christmas in Israel is a minority celebration observed primarily by Arab Christians, who make up about two percent of the population. However, the holiday carries enormous global significance because of Bethlehem (in the Palestinian territories), Nazareth, and Jerusalem, the lands where the original Christmas story took place.

Nazareth, the largest Arab city in Israel and the childhood home of Jesus, is the center of Israeli Christmas celebrations. The city decorates extensively, and the Basilica of the Annunciation hosts special Masses. A Christmas market and parade draw visitors from across the country. Arab Christian families celebrate with church services, followed by festive meals featuring lamb mansaf, maqluba (upside-down rice and meat dish), stuffed grape leaves, and kanafeh (sweet cheese pastry).

In Jerusalem's Old City, the Christian Quarter comes alive with processions, church bells, and decorated streets. The different Christian denominations celebrate on different dates: Western churches on December 25, Orthodox on January 7, and Armenian on January 19. This means the Christmas season in Jerusalem stretches for nearly a month.

For the Jewish majority, December is the season of Hanukkah, and the two holidays sometimes overlap. While Christmas is not a public holiday in Israel, many secular Israelis enjoy the festive atmosphere, particularly in Haifa, which is known for its Holiday of Holidays festival celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, and Eid together.
