The Holiday Checker queries HolidayFYI's database of public holidays, observances, religious celebrations, and cultural events across more than 200 countries and territories. Simply pick a date to see every holiday observed worldwide on that day, or narrow your search to a specific country.

Many holidays do not fall on a fixed date. Easter shifts based on the first full moon after the vernal equinox. Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha follow the Islamic lunar calendar. Chinese New Year, Diwali, and Vesak are tied to their respective lunisolar calendars. The Holiday Checker accounts for all these variable dates, computed year by year.

Results are tagged by type: Public Holiday, Bank Holiday, Observance, Religious Holiday, Cultural Celebration, National Day, UN International Day, or Seasonal Celebration. This helps you quickly see whether offices and banks will be closed or if it is an informal celebration.

What counts as a public holiday?
A public holiday (also called a statutory holiday, bank holiday, or legal holiday) is a day designated by law when most workers are entitled to a day off with pay. This tool distinguishes public holidays from observances, which are culturally recognised dates that do not carry a legal day off.
Does the Holiday Checker include moveable feasts?
Yes. Easter, Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, Chinese New Year, Diwali, Vesak, and other lunar or lunisolar holidays are computed year by year with correct variable dates.

How often is the holiday data updated?
Holiday dates are generated for each calendar year using official government gazettes, the python-holidays library, and manual curation. New years are added ahead of time, and corrections are applied as governments announce changes to their holiday calendars.
