<holidayfyi-glossary slug="equinox"></holidayfyi-glossary>An astronomical event occurring twice yearly when day and night are approximately equal in length worldwide. The vernal (spring) equinox around March 20 and the autumnal equinox around September 22 mark the transitions between seasons. Nowruz (Persian New Year) and the Japanese Shunbun no Hi are holidays celebrating the spring equinox.
