The Sanctuary of Fatima is the focal point of Portuguese Assumption celebrations. Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims converge on the town for special Masses, candlelight processions, and devotions at the Chapel of the Apparitions. Many pilgrims walk for days from across Portugal, some covering the last stretch on their knees as an act of devotion.
