نوروز(Nowruz) en Emiratos Árabes Unidos

Saludo local: Nowruz Mobarak! / عیدت مبارک

Nowruz in the United Arab Emirates is celebrated by the significant Iranian expatriate community, one of the largest in the Gulf region. Dubai and Sharjah, with their established Iranian merchant communities dating back generations, are the centres of celebration. The historic Bastakiya quarter in Dubai, built by Iranian traders, serves as a cultural anchor.

Iranian restaurants and cultural centres across Dubai host special Nowruz menus and events. Haft-Sin tables are displayed in malls, hotels, and community spaces. The Persian community in the UAE maintains close ties to Iranian traditions, and families gather for elaborate meals featuring sabzi polo ba mahi (herbed rice with fish), the traditional Nowruz dinner.

The UAE government has increasingly recognized Nowruz as part of the country's multicultural fabric. Shopping malls in Dubai and Abu Dhabi set up Nowruz decorations, and cultural events are organized through the Iranian Association and various community groups.

For many Iranian expatriates, Nowruz in the UAE is tinged with nostalgia. Families video-call relatives in Iran, prepare traditional sweets like baklava and noghl (sugar-coated almonds), and recreate the festive atmosphere of an Iranian spring in the desert climate. Some families travel to Iran for the holiday, while others make the UAE celebration their own with community picnics and gatherings.
