عيد الأضحى(Aïd el-Adha) en Malaisie

Salutation locale: Selamat Hari Raya Haji

Eid al-Adha in Malaysia, known as Hari Raya Haji or Hari Raya Korban, is a public holiday observed with religious solemnity and community spirit. The day is closely tied to the Hajj pilgrimage, and Malaysian pilgrims performing Hajj are followed with great interest by their families and communities back home.

The korban, or sacrifice, is organized communally through mosques and surau. Community members pool funds to purchase cattle and goats, and the sacrifice is performed at the mosque after the Eid prayer. The entire process, from slaughter to butchering to distribution, is a community effort, with volunteers working together under the supervision of religious officials.

The meat is distributed to the community, with priority given to the asnaf, those in need. Many mosques organize the distribution through a queue system, and families receive packets of fresh meat. In rural areas, particularly in the east coast states of Kelantan and Terengganu, the communal sacrifice and feast reinforce kampung solidarity.

Malaysian families prepare the sacrificial meat as rendang, sup tulang, and various curries. The meal is less elaborate than Hari Raya Aidilfitri but carries deeper spiritual significance. The day is also marked by special prayers for the Malaysian Hajj contingent, and the return of pilgrims in the weeks following is celebrated with airport receptions and community gatherings.
