عيد الفطر(Aïd el-Fitr) en Indonésie

Salutation locale: Selamat Hari Raya Idul Fitri, mohon maaf lahir dan batin

Eid al-Fitr in Indonesia, known as Lebaran or Hari Raya Idul Fitri, triggers the largest annual human migration in the world. Mudik, the tradition of returning to one's hometown for Eid, sees over 85 million Indonesians cram onto buses, trains, motorcycles, and ferries to travel home, clogging roads across Java and Sumatra for days.

The celebration begins with the Eid prayer at mosques and open fields, followed by the deeply emotional tradition of sungkeman, where children kneel before their parents and elders to ask forgiveness for any wrongs committed during the past year. Tears flow freely as family members embrace and reconcile, making Lebaran a time of genuine spiritual renewal.

The Lebaran feast is magnificent. Ketupat, compressed rice cooked in woven palm leaf packets, is the iconic dish, served with opor ayam, chicken in coconut milk, rendang, slow-cooked spiced beef, and sambal goreng, a fiery mixed vegetable dish. Nastar cookies filled with pineapple jam, kastengel cheese sticks, and putri salju snow cookies are displayed on every family table.

Indonesian cities are decorated with lights and banners, and shopping malls offer Eid sales and entertainment. Companies pay the mandatory THR, Tunjangan Hari Raya, a holiday bonus equal to one month's salary, ensuring that all workers can celebrate with their families.
