<holidayfyi-glossary slug="metonic-cycle"></holidayfyi-glossary>A 19-year astronomical cycle after which lunar phases recur on the same days of the solar year, named after the Greek astronomer Meton of Athens. The Hebrew and some Buddhist calendars use the Metonic cycle to determine when to add intercalary months. It is also the basis for the calculation of Easter in the Western Christian tradition.
