Major cities charge premium prices for New Year's Eve events. Hotel rates in destinations like New York, London, Paris, Dubai, and Sydney reach their annual peaks. Restaurants offer fixed-price menus at inflated rates. For budget-conscious celebrations, smaller cities and home gatherings offer equally festive alternatives at a fraction of the cost.

The December Shutdown

Between Christmas and New Year's, much of the global economy enters a quiet period. European businesses are typically closed from 24 December through 1 January. In the United States, the week between Christmas and New Year's sees reduced staffing across industries. In Japan, the year-end period called nenmatsu leads into the New Year holidays.
