Good Friday(聖金曜日) の ニュージーランド
現地の挨拶: Good Friday blessings
Good Friday in New Zealand is a public holiday observed with a degree of quietude unusual in the generally relaxed Kiwi culture. Trading restrictions are among the strictest of any day, with most retail shops, supermarkets, and liquor stores required to close. Only a limited number of exempt businesses, such as dairies, petrol stations, and restaurants, may open.
Many New Zealanders attend church services, with Anglican, Catholic, and Protestant churches holding special liturgies. In some communities, ecumenical groups organize outdoor Stations of the Cross walks through town centers or along coastal paths. The Hikoi of Hope, a tradition of reflective community walks, takes place in several cities.
Hot cross buns are enormously popular, with New Zealand bakeries producing millions in the weeks leading up to Easter. The buns have become a cultural touchpoint, with fierce debates over when it is acceptable to start selling them and whether modern flavor variations like chocolate chip or salted caramel are acceptable. Fish and chips is the traditional Good Friday meal, and fish shops report their busiest day of the year.
For many Kiwis, Good Friday marks the start of a four-day outdoor adventure. Campgrounds in the Coromandel, Bay of Islands, and Marlborough Sounds fill to capacity as families head away for fishing, tramping, and enjoying the last warm days of autumn.
