رمضان(ラマダン) の サウジアラビア

現地の挨拶: Ramadan Mubarak / Ramadan Kareem

Ramadan in Saudi Arabia is an extraordinarily intense spiritual experience, as the kingdom that hosts Islam's two holiest cities transforms entirely during the holy month. Daily rhythms reverse: the streets empty during the day as fasting Muslims rest, and come alive after sunset when the iftar meal breaks the fast.

The iftar in Saudi Arabia begins with dates and water, following the Prophet's tradition, followed by a spread that typically includes sambousek, fried pastries filled with meat or cheese, shorba, a hearty soup, and the main course of kabsa, mandi, or grilled meats. Families gather in homes or at the lavish Ramadan tents set up by hotels and restaurants. The generosity of the month is on full display as organizations distribute free iftar meals to workers and the less fortunate.

The Haramain, the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet's Mosque in Medina, become the spiritual center of the Muslim world during Ramadan. Millions of worshippers perform Tarawih prayers each night, and the last ten nights of Ramadan see the mosques packed to capacity as the faithful seek Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Power. The recitation of the Quran in the Haramain is broadcast worldwide.

Saudi cities transform aesthetically during Ramadan. Streets are decorated with lanterns and lights, shopping malls extend hours to accommodate post-iftar shoppers, and social gatherings shift to the late-night hours. The tradition of ghabga, late-night Ramadan gatherings with friends, is a distinctly Gulf tradition.
