<holidayfyi-glossary slug="substitute-day"></holidayfyi-glossary>An alternative day granted as a holiday when a public holiday falls on a weekend or another non-working day. Also known as a 'observed' holiday or 'in lieu' day, substitute days ensure workers do not lose their entitlement to paid leave. Many countries have specific rules for which adjacent weekday is granted as a substitute.
