All Saints' Day(모든 성인의 날) ~에서 스페인

현지 인사말: Feliz Dia de Todos los Santos

All Saints' Day on November 1st, Dia de Todos los Santos, is a national public holiday in Spain observed with family gatherings, cemetery visits, and deeply rooted culinary traditions. The day is a time to honor the dead and is taken seriously even in increasingly secular Spanish society.

Spaniards visit cemeteries throughout the day to clean and decorate the graves of family members with flowers, particularly chrysanthemums. In many towns, the cemetery visit is followed by a family gathering around the table. The tradition of honoring the dead is deeply embedded in Spanish culture, predating Christianity and blending with Celtic and Roman customs.

The quintessential Spanish All Saints' food is buñuelos de viento, light fried pastries filled with cream, chocolate, or custard. In Catalonia, castanyes i panellets are traditional: roasted chestnuts served with panellets, small marzipan-based cakes coated in pine nuts, coconut, or chocolate. In Galicia, the Celtic heritage is evident in the tradition of eating chestnuts and drinking queimada, a flaming punch of orujo, sugar, and lemon.

The theatrical tradition of performing Don Juan Tenorio, Jose Zorrilla's classic play about a legendary seducer confronted by death and redemption, is a uniquely Spanish All Saints' custom. Performances take place in theaters and public spaces across the country. In Madrid and other cities, the play has been performed on this date since the nineteenth century.
