Easter in France, called Paques, is celebrated with deep Catholic traditions and distinctive regional customs. Church bells across the country fall silent from Maundy Thursday, and children are told the bells have flown to Rome to be blessed by the Pope. On Easter morning the bells ring out again, and children rush outside to find chocolate eggs, hens, and fish that the bells have supposedly dropped in gardens on their return.

In Haux, a small village in the Gironde, the community prepares a giant omelet on Easter Monday using over four thousand eggs, cooked in an enormous pan in the town square. In Alsace, fountains are decorated with painted eggs and ribbons in the tradition of Osterbrunnen, reflecting the region's Germanic heritage.

The south of France holds traditional bullfighting events during the Easter feria in cities like Arles and Nimes, while in Corsica, elaborate religious processions wind through the streets of Bonifacio and Sartene during Holy Week.

The most important Christian holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after crucifixion, observed worldwide with sunrise services, egg hunts, and family gatherings.
