New Year's Day(새해 첫날) ~에서 페루

현지 인사말: Feliz Ano Nuevo!

Ano Nuevo in Peru is celebrated with warmth and distinctive Andean-influenced customs alongside traditions shared with other Latin American countries. The midnight celebrations in Lima's Plaza de Armas and Miraflores district draw large crowds for fireworks and champagne toasts.

Peruvians burn effigies (munecones) at midnight, similar to Colombia and Ecuador. These effigies represent the old year and everything negative to leave behind. The streets fill with smoke and the crackle of firecrackers as neighbourhoods light their creations.

Food traditions include panetón (panettone), a legacy of Italian immigration that has become Peru's most iconic holiday food. Families drink hot chocolate with panetón on New Year's Eve and throughout the holiday season. The New Year's Day meal often features lechón (roast pork), arroz con pollo, and fresh ceviche.

Peruvian New Year's superstitions are colourful: wearing yellow underwear for prosperity, placing lentils and coins in pockets, walking around the block with a suitcase, and eating twelve grapes. In some Andean communities, the New Year is also a time for paying respects to Pachamama (Mother Earth) with offerings of coca leaves, chicha (corn beer), and flowers.
