Reveillon in Brazil is centred on Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana Beach, where over two million people gather for one of the planet's largest New Year's Eve parties. The fireworks display, launched from boats anchored offshore, illuminates the four-kilometre beach in a 15-minute extravaganza. Musical stages feature top Brazilian artists performing samba, pagode, funk, and pop.

The tradition of wearing white is deeply rooted in Afro-Brazilian spiritual traditions, particularly Candomble and Umbanda. White symbolizes peace and is worn as an offering to Iemanja, the goddess of the sea. Many revellers also wear coloured accessories: yellow for wealth, red for love, and green for health.

At midnight, Brazilians jump seven waves in the ocean, making one wish with each jump. Offerings to Iemanja are floated out to sea: small boats filled with flowers, perfume, mirrors, and candles. If the waves take the offering away, the wish will be granted; if it washes back, Iemanja has declined.

Beyond Rio, Salvador, Sao Paulo, Florianopolis, and Recife host massive celebrations. Sao Paulo's Avenida Paulista party draws millions, and Fernando de Noronha offers exclusive island celebrations. The Brazilian Reveillon is uniquely spiritual, musical, and joyous, reflecting the country's vibrant cultural tapestry.

The last day of the Gregorian calendar year, celebrated worldwide with countdown parties, fireworks, and midnight toasts welcoming the new year.
