<holidayfyi-glossary slug="islamic-calendar"></holidayfyi-glossary>Also known as the Hijri calendar, a purely lunar calendar of 12 months totaling 354 or 355 days per year. Because it is approximately 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year, Islamic holidays such as Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, and Eid al-Adha shift earlier each year relative to the Gregorian calendar.
