<holidayfyi-glossary slug="sacred-grove"></holidayfyi-glossary>A stand of trees or woodland regarded as holy ground by a religious community and used as a site of worship, sacrifice, and festival gatherings, found in Celtic druid tradition, ancient Greece, Hindu communities in India (known as 'dev vans' or 'orans'), and among the Yoruba in West Africa. Sacred groves are often the focal point of annual festivals tied to planting, harvest, or the veneration of forest deities, and their preservation is simultaneously a religious and an ecological act.
