In Japan the autumnal equinox is a national holiday (Shubun no Hi) dedicated to ancestor veneration, and harvest festivals across many cultures coincide with it — including Mid-Autumn Festival in East Asia, the German Erntedankfest, and Sukkot in the Jewish calendar — all celebrating abundance before winter.
