Vesak Day in Malaysia is a national public holiday celebrated by the country's Buddhist community, which is predominantly Chinese but also includes Sri Lankan, Thai, and Burmese Buddhists. The celebration is one of the most visible Buddhist observances in Southeast Asia.

Malaysian Buddhists begin the day with prayers and offerings at temples across the country. The Buddhist Maha Vihara in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, hosts one of the largest celebrations, featuring a grand procession of decorated floats through the streets of the capital. The procession includes traditional music, dragon dances, and devotees carrying offerings.

Temples offer free vegetarian meals to visitors, a practice that draws people of all faiths and reflects the Buddhist emphasis on generosity and compassion. The tradition of bathing the Buddha statue is widely practiced, and many devotees take the Eight Precepts for the day, eating only before noon and abstaining from entertainment.

In Penang, the celebrations at Kek Lok Si Temple and other Buddhist temples are particularly elaborate, with lanterns, chanting ceremonies, and cultural performances. The Malaysian Buddhist community uses Vesak as an opportunity for interfaith dialogue, inviting leaders of other religious communities to participate in events that promote harmony and understanding.
