All Saints' Day on November 1st, known as Ognissanti or Tutti i Santi, is a national public holiday in Italy observed with cemetery visits, family gatherings, and regional culinary traditions. The day honors all saints, while the following day, November 2nd (Giorno dei Morti), is dedicated to remembering the deceased.

Italian families visit cemeteries to clean and decorate the graves of their loved ones with chrysanthemums and candles. In many parts of southern Italy, the traditions blend All Saints' and All Souls' Day into a single extended celebration. In Sicily, the tradition of the Festa dei Morti on November 2nd sees children receiving gifts supposedly brought by the souls of the dead, a custom similar to Christmas in other countries.

Regional foods mark the occasion. In Lombardy, pane dei morti, bread of the dead, a cookie made with almonds and spices, is traditional. In Puglia, grano dei morti, a wheat berry dessert with pomegranate and chocolate, is prepared. Sicilian frutta di Martorana, marzipan fruits crafted by nuns, are given as gifts. In Sardinia, su pane de saba, a bread made with grape must, is traditional.

The atmosphere is reflective but not somber. After cemetery visits, families gather for long meals featuring autumnal dishes: chestnuts, pumpkin risotto, roasted meats, and regional wines. The holiday marks the transition into late autumn and the approach of the Christmas season.
