春节 (Chūnjié)(วันตรุษจีน) ใน อินโดนีเซีย
คำทักทายท้องถิ่น: Gong Xi Fa Cai! / Selamat Tahun Baru Imlek!
Imlek (Chinese New Year) in Indonesia was banned during the Suharto era (1967-2000) as part of broader restrictions on Chinese cultural expression. Its restoration as a national holiday in 2002 was a landmark moment for Indonesia's Chinese minority, and the festival has since flourished as a celebration of the country's multicultural identity.
In Jakarta, Glodok (the city's Chinatown) comes alive with red lanterns, dragon dances, and street food stalls selling nian gao (kue keranjang), lontong cap go meh, and bakso (meatball soup). Vihara (Buddhist temples) across the country are packed with worshippers lighting incense and praying for prosperity.
Singkawang in West Kalimantan hosts one of the most spectacular Cap Go Meh (15th day) parades in the world, featuring tatung (spirit mediums) in trance performing extraordinary physical feats. The parade draws tens of thousands and has become a major cultural tourism event.
Indonesian Chinese New Year cuisine reflects local fusion: lontong cap go meh (rice cake in coconut curry with vegetables and meat) is a uniquely Indonesian creation. Angpao (red envelopes) are given, family reunions are held, and the greeting 'Gong Xi Fa Cai' echoes through communities alongside 'Selamat Tahun Baru Imlek,' reflecting the blend of Chinese tradition and Indonesian national identity.
