คำทักทายท้องถิ่น: Selamat memperingati Maulid Nabi Muhammad SAW

Mawlid al-Nabi in Indonesia, known as Maulid Nabi Muhammad or Maulud, is a national public holiday celebrated with distinctly Indonesian cultural traditions that vary across the diverse archipelago. The celebration reflects Indonesia's unique brand of Islam, which incorporates local customs and artistic traditions.

In the royal courts of Central Java, particularly in Yogyakarta and Surakarta, Maulud is celebrated with the Sekaten festival, a week-long celebration featuring the playing of sacred gamelan instruments, the Grebeg Maulud procession of offering mountains (gunungan) from the palace to the grand mosque, and a massive night market. The Sekaten gamelan, believed to date from the era of the Wali Songo, plays continuously for a week in the mosque compound.

Across Indonesia, mosques and community organizations hold maulid gatherings featuring the recitation of the Barzanji or Diba'i, Arabic texts celebrating the Prophet's life, interspersed with shalawat, devotional songs. In many communities, these gatherings are followed by communal meals, with families bringing dishes to share.

In Aceh, Maulud is celebrated with traditional dances and cultural performances. In West Sumatra, the Minangkabau community holds elaborate maulid feasts called makan bajamba. The celebration in each region reflects local culture while maintaining the shared theme of honoring the Prophet's birth and teachings.
