🪙 Hanukkah Gelt

Hanukkah gelt (Yiddish for 'money') refers to coins or chocolate coins given to children during the holiday, a custom with roots in the 17th-century Eastern European practice of donating money to Torah teachers. The chocolate version was pioneered by Loft's candy company in the 1920s and became a beloved North American tradition. Gelt is also used as stakes in dreidel games played around the menorah.
