Yom Kippur in Argentina is observed by Latin America's largest Jewish community with deep reverence. The Jewish neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, particularly Once and Belgrano, see a marked shift in activity as businesses close and community life centers on the synagogue.

Argentine synagogues fill to capacity for Kol Nidre and the Yom Kippur services. The community includes both Ashkenazi Jews, primarily of Eastern European origin, and Sephardic Jews, mainly from Syria, Turkey, and Morocco, each with their own liturgical traditions and melodies. The AMIA community center and the many synagogues of Buenos Aires host services for thousands.

The 25-hour fast is widely observed, and the streets of Jewish neighborhoods are noticeably quieter. The Argentine Jewish community, which has experienced both prosperity and tragedy, including the devastating AMIA bombing in 1994, finds particular resonance in Yom Kippur's themes of reflection, atonement, and renewal.

The break-fast meal reflects the community's dual heritage. Ashkenazi families serve traditional Eastern European fare: herring, challah, kugel, and blintzes. Sephardic families prepare bourekas, sambusak, and arrope, a grape molasses. Both traditions come together in many Argentine Jewish families that have intermarried across the communities over generations.

The holiest day in Judaism, observed as a 25-hour fast of prayer and repentance for sins, culminating the ten Days of Awe after Rosh Hashanah with synagogue services and the shofar's final blast.
