🌼 Day of the Dead Altar (Ofrenda)

The ofrenda is a home altar constructed during Día de los Muertos in Mexico to welcome the spirits of deceased relatives back to the living world. Tiered shelves are covered with marigold flowers (whose scent guides the dead), photographs, candles, the deceased's favourite foods and objects, sugar skulls, and pan de muerto bread. UNESCO inscribed the tradition on its Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2008, recognising its rich symbolic language and its role in maintaining bonds between the living and the dead.
