The St Patrick's Day parade is a marching procession of bands, floats, and cultural groups held in cities worldwide on 17 March to celebrate Irish heritage. The New York City parade, first held in 1762, is one of the oldest and largest in the world. Dublin's own national parade, established in 1931, draws hundreds of thousands of spectators to the city centre, while Chicago famously dyes its river green for the occasion.
