Ascension Day in France, known as l'Ascension, is a national public holiday that falls on a Thursday, forty days after Easter. The Thursday placement creates the famous pont de l'Ascension, bridge weekend, as many French workers take Friday off to enjoy a four-day break, making it one of the most popular short-vacation periods of the year.

Religious observance includes special Masses in Catholic churches across France. The tradition is less elaborate than Easter but still significant in practicing communities.
