Ascension Day in France, known as l'Ascension, is a national public holiday that falls on a Thursday, forty days after Easter. The Thursday placement creates the famous pont de l'Ascension, bridge weekend, as many French workers take Friday off to enjoy a four-day break, making it one of the most popular short-vacation periods of the year.

Religious observance includes special Masses in Catholic churches across France. The tradition is less elaborate than Easter but still significant in practicing communities. Some churches hold outdoor services, and in rural areas, processions through fields and vineyards to bless the crops are maintained.
