Republic Day on January 26 celebrates the date in 1950 when the Constitution of India came into effect, completing the country's transition from a British dominion to a sovereign republic. The Beating Retreat ceremony on January 29, held at Vijay Chowk near Parliament, marks the end of the Republic Day celebrations with a spectacular display of military band performances as the sun sets. The three-day celebration period fills New Delhi with patriotic fervor and cultural pride.
