<holidayfyi-glossary slug="sabbath"></holidayfyi-glossary>A weekly day of rest and worship observed in Judaism (Saturday, from Friday sunset to Saturday sunset) and Christianity (Sunday for most denominations). The concept originates from the biblical account of God resting on the seventh day of creation. Many countries have laws protecting the Sabbath as a day of reduced commercial activity.
