Ascension Day in Norway, known as Kristi himmelfartsdag, is a national public holiday that falls on a Thursday forty days after Easter. The holiday is cherished for creating a long weekend opportunity, as many Norwegians take the intervening Friday as an inneklemtdag (squeezed day) to enjoy a four-day break.

Norwegian churches hold special services, with some congregations gathering on hilltops or elevated locations to symbolize Christ's ascent. However, for most Norwegians, the day is associated with the joy of late spring and the outdoors rather than religious observance.

The timing of Kristi himmelfartsdag in late May or early June places it at the peak of the Norwegian spring.
