The New Zealand government has embraced Diwali as part of the country's multicultural identity. Parliament hosts a Diwali function, and the Beehive, New Zealand's parliament building, has been illuminated in Diwali colors. Schools in areas with Indian communities teach about the festival, and the celebration is seen as a symbol of New Zealand's increasingly diverse society.
