The fireworks display over the city center is a highlight. Wellington and Christchurch also host growing Diwali celebrations.

Indian-New Zealand families celebrate with home rituals including lighting diyas, performing puja, and preparing traditional foods. The multicultural Kiwi spirit means that neighbors, friends, and colleagues of all backgrounds are invited to share in the celebration with plates of mithai and samosas.

The New Zealand government has embraced Diwali as part of the country's multicultural identity. Parliament hosts a Diwali function, and the Beehive, New Zealand's parliament building, has been illuminated in Diwali colors.
