رمضان(Ramadan) em Bangladesh
Saudação Local: Ramadan Mubarak
Ramadan in Bangladesh, called Rojar Maash, is observed with deep devotion by the country's overwhelmingly Muslim population. The holy month transforms daily life, with government offices and businesses operating on shortened schedules and the entire country shifting to a Ramadan rhythm.
The iftar tradition in Bangladesh is particularly vibrant. The most famous iftar market is in Old Dhaka's Chowk Bazaar, where hundreds of vendors sell an astonishing variety of iftar foods: piyaju (lentil fritters), beguni (fried eggplant), chotpoti (chickpea snack), jilapi, halim, and dozens of other items. The narrow lanes become almost impassable as thousands crowd in to buy their evening meal.
Bangladeshi Ramadan cuisine has its own distinctive character. Muri (puffed rice) with various accompaniments is a common iftar starter. Haleem, a slow-cooked stew of wheat, lentils, and meat, becomes available only during Ramadan and is eagerly anticipated. Shemai, date-stuffed parathas, and various shorba soups complete the iftar table.
Mosques are filled for Tarawih prayers, and the recitation of the Quran in the melodic Bangladeshi style is a deeply moving experience. The tradition of sending iftar platters to neighbors and relatives reinforces social bonds. As Ramadan progresses, the excitement for Eid builds, with tailors and clothing shops working around the clock to fulfill orders.
