The Leopardstown Christmas Festival, held over four days starting on December 26, is one of the most prestigious race meetings in the Irish calendar and draws large crowds. It is a social event as much as a sporting one, with attendees dressing up despite the winter weather.

For families, Saint Stephen's Day is a day for visiting, walking, and eating leftovers. Cold turkey sandwiches and reheated Christmas dinner are standard. Many Irish pubs reopen after being closed on Christmas Day, and the social atmosphere is warm and convivial.
