Easter(Lễ Phục Sinh) tại Philippines

Lời chúc địa phương: Maligayang Pasko ng Pagkabuhay

Easter in the Philippines is the culmination of the most intense Holy Week observance in Asia. The predominantly Catholic nation takes Semana Santa deeply seriously, with businesses closing and television broadcasting religious programming throughout the week. In San Fernando, Pampanga, devotees participate in actual crucifixions, voluntarily having themselves nailed to wooden crosses in a visceral display of faith that draws both pilgrims and international media.

Senakulo, dramatic reenactments of the Passion of Christ, are performed in communities across the country. Some are elaborate street theater lasting several hours with hundreds of costumed participants. Flagellants walk through the streets, striking their backs with bamboo whips as an act of penance.

Easter Sunday brings a dramatic shift to jubilation. The Salubong, or encounter, is a dawn ceremony where separate processions of the Risen Christ and the grieving Madonna meet. An angel descends to remove the Marian Virgin's black veil, symbolizing the joy of resurrection, while the crowd erupts in song and celebration.

Filipino families celebrate with a feast that may include lechon, morcon, and various kakanin rice cakes. Children receive Easter baskets and new clothes. In recent years urban communities have adopted egg hunts, blending Western customs with deep-rooted Filipino Catholic traditions.
