ਲੋਹੜੀ(Lễ Lohri)

Lohri is celebrated on January 13 every year, the night before Makar Sankranti. It marks the culmination of winter and the beginning of longer days as the sun moves toward the Northern Hemisphere.

Lohri is a Punjabi winter folk festival primarily celebrated in the Punjab region of India and Pakistan. It marks the end of winter and the passing of the winter solstice, associated with the harvest of Rabi crops. The festival holds special importance for newlyweds and newborn babies.

Lohri traditions include lighting a bonfire around which people gather to perform folk dances (bhangra and giddha), singing traditional Lohri songs such as those about Dulla Bhatti, throwing popcorn, peanuts, sesame seeds, and gur (jaggery) into the fire as offerings, and sharing sweets like rewri, gajak, and til-shakkar.
