New Year's Day(元旦) 在 德国

当地问候语: Frohes neues Jahr!

Neujahrstag in Germany dawns with the lingering scent of gunpowder from the previous night's Silvester fireworks. Germans are among Europe's most enthusiastic firework buyers, and the streets on January 1st are littered with spent rockets and firecrackers that cleanup crews work through the morning to clear.

A beloved New Year's Day tradition is watching Dinner for One (Der 90. Geburtstag), a 1963 British comedy sketch that German television has broadcast every New Year's Eve since the 1970s. The phrase 'Same procedure as every year' has become a national catchphrase. Families gather for a late breakfast featuring Berliners (jam-filled doughnuts known as Pfannkuchen in Berlin itself or Krapfen in Bavaria).

The Neujahrsspringen ski jumping event at Garmisch-Partenkirchen, part of the prestigious Four Hills Tournament, draws huge television audiences. Many Germans also take Neujahrskonzerte (New Year's concerts) seriously, with orchestras across the country performing classical programmes.

Bleigiessen, the tradition of pouring molten lead into cold water and interpreting the resulting shapes to predict the future, was a classic German New Year's custom for centuries. Although lead sets were banned in 2018 due to health concerns, many families now use wax alternatives to keep the fortune-telling ritual alive.
