Taiwanese grilling favorites include pork slices, corn, clams, mushrooms, sweet potatoes, and various vegetables, brushed with the distinctive sweet soy-based barbecue sauce. The pomelo symbolizes family unity and good fortune.

Moon gazing, lantern lighting, and family gatherings continue the deeper traditions of the festival. Many Taiwanese also visit temples to pray and give thanks during the holiday. The festival creates a three-day public holiday weekend, and travel within Taiwan surges as families reunite. Department stores and bakeries compete with creative mooncake offerings, from traditional to fusion flavors, making the weeks before the festival a season of elaborate gift-giving and culinary experimentation.
